Our Approach

Working in collaboration with architects, several options were proposed for review.  The chosen scheme placed the new bridge alongside the existing one, maintaining access and minimizing disruption during construction.

Site investigation revealed poor ground quality, and the abutments would require a piled solution.

The Solutions

The span of the bridge at 16m long meant that steel was the most appropriate, cost-effective material for the superstructure. Datrys designed a feature bowstring truss bridge with curved spindles to highlight the architectural visual.

A 6m wide deck accommodated a single traffic lane with designated cycle and pedestrian path. Abutments were reinforced concrete and set back from the riverbank ensuring that the structure remains unobstructed during a flood event.

The design complied with British and Highways Standards.

Project Outcome

The bridge has been successfully operational for 15 years reducing congestion and improving safety for all users.
