Structural Assessment, Structural Survey
Colwyn Bay, Conwy
The inspection was visual and covered all accessible areas deemed safe. The team focused on identifying variations in known defects, recording new issues, and evaluating the structural adequacy of critical elements such as the pavilion, entrance buildings, deck, balustrade, and pier structure. Observations were supported by photographs and annotated drawings, ensuring a thorough and factual assessment.
The inspection identified continued deterioration in several elements, particularly the pavilion, deck, balustrade, and pier structure, including an estimated 9.25% increase in localised member loss since the last detailed inspection.
key findings included several areas were confirmed as unsuitable for public access and existing access restrictions should remain in place until strengthening works are undertaken.
The report recommended replacing or reinforcing deteriorated elements, refurbishing the balustrade with new fixing details, and preparing method statements should removal or dismantling of these elements be required as part of future works.
The principal steel frame was found to be generally sound but requires cleaning and repainting. Continued monitoring and timely remedial works are recommended to prevent further deterioration and maintain structural stability.
