Waterco Team Race For A Good Cause At The Annual Dragon Boat Race
17th Jun 2019
Last Saturday 15th June, 16 willing paddlers and a drummer made up the Waterco Dragon Boat Race team for the annual charity boat race held at the Queens Dock in Liverpool.
In previous years, Waterco have helped to raise thousands of pounds towards deserving charities such as Pool of Life and WaterAid. For the 2019 race, Waterco raised funds towards the charity Pool of Life.
“Pool of Life is a registered charity and was the first established dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors in the UK.
The team was set up in 2004, under the guidance and support of Liverpool-based Amathus Dragon Boat Club, to help raise breast cancer awareness and demonstrate that women and men living with breast cancer can lead full and active lives.”
Similar to previous years, Waterco have kindly agreed to pay the team entry fee, which has allowed for participants to focus on raising funds for the above charities and of course, the big race!
Waterco debuted in the Dragon Boat Race in 2015 and placed 7th in a tough field. The following year in 2016, Waterco made the major final and came out 4th. The next two years produced two more 4th place finishes, with the 2018 result being tightly contested and within one second of winning.
The driving force behind Waterco’s entry is long time paddler, Dave Hughes. Dave is a Senior Engineer within the Flood Risk team. When a flood risk assessment requires supporting hydraulic modelling, either utilising existing EA model, updating Climate Change Allowance or building a new model from scratch, Dave is our Technical Specialist for Flood Modeller Pro, TuFLow and GIS.
Dave has considerable experience of Flood Modeller Pro (formerly ISIS) and ESTRY – TUFLOW modelling. Having completed over 100 modelling projects, Dave is able to provide clients with a detailed understanding of a project’s flood risk and hazards. He has recently completed a Surface Water Management Plan mode, strategically highlighting the surface water flooding hotspots for further study. He has worked on several large GIS-based projects being responsible for efficient data management.
Waterco is always looking out for the right people to join our growing organisation and our Dragon Boat Race team! If you are ready for an exciting new challenge, please send your CV and covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
